Butch Blog: The Honda Classic Could Have a Wild Finish With an Els Victory

March 4, 2010--I would like to congratulate Hunter Mahan on his victory at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Hunter held off fellow Oklahoma State player and rising superstar, Rickie Fowler, for his first win of the season. As the West Coast Swing comes to an end we had no multiple winners. Geoff Ogilvy and Steve Stricker are two of the biggest names to pick up early victories this season, while Bill Haas and Ian Poulter are two players who picked up their first PGA Tour victories of their careers.

As the Tour heads east we can expect stronger fields as the players gear up for the first major of the year. We kick off the Florida swing with The Honda Classic at PGA National Campion Course in Palm Beach Gardens. This tournament is known for its windy conditions and a tough stretch of finishing holes in 15, 16 and 17. also known as "The Bear's Trap". These holes have had scores increasingly over par the past three years which could lead to a wild finish. Current PGA Champion, Y.E. Yang, is the defending champion of The Honda Classic. He played great in Phoenix and I look for him to put up a strong defense of his title this week. As for my dark horse pick I am going with a former champion of The Honda Classic, Ernie Els. I am hoping to pick a winner soon so let's see if Ernie comes through for me this week.--Butch.
