Butch Blog: There's No Place Like the 16th Hole in Phoenix!

February 23, 2010--I would first like to congratulate Ian Poulter and Cameron Beckman on their wins this past week. Ian won the Accenture Match Play Championship, which proved that not only can real men wear pink, but they can also win in it. Cameron won the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico.

This week is the Phoenix Open which is being held at the same venue with a new sponsor, Waste Management. This seems like a perfect fit, seeing that this tournament has the reputation of being the biggest party of the year, which will make for huge galleries and now Waste Management will be there to clean up when the party comes to an end Sunday evening. If you haven't seen this tournament, you will have to tune in to catch a glimpse of the 16th hole. There is no other like it on tour. The hole seats 20,000 people and crowd participation is absolutely encouraged. The TPC Scottsdale is a long hitter's paradise with wide open fairways, so look for a lot of birdies and eagles this week.

The course sets up nicely for both Phil (Mickelson) and Nick(Watney), so I look for both of them to perform well this week. Good luck guys! I haven't had much luck with my picks this year, which shows how hard it is to pick a winner on the PGA Tour. This week, with his great play recently, my dark horse pick of the week is Fred Couples, and his odds should also be pretty good.
