Butch Blog: Winners and Picks of the Week

February 17, 2010--First of all, congratulations to Dustin Johnson for winning the AT&T for two consecutive years which he did it in grand style with a birdie on the final hole. He obviously is a very talented player. Also, congratulations to Fred Couples on his Champion's Tour win. His final round of 64 held off a great challenge from Tommy Armour III's 61. Great golf by both players.

This coming week the Accenture Match Play is being held on a course that is not very notable, and with it's very undulating greens we will see some interesting putts, chip and pitch shots. The ball carries a long distance at this venue, and the weather will be very good, so it should make for interesting viewing.

Total score matters very little in this format, and with Tiger and Phil not in the field, it will be a very different tournament. Match play can be so very dramatic when a match is near the end, with every hole being so important to survival, especially near the end of the week. The players only have to beat 6 rather than 143 to succeed. My weekly dark horse picks are Lucas Glover and Lee Westwood. Both are playing very well at the moment.
