July 20, 2009--Butch Harmon has always been a part of the community where he lives, and upon arriving in the Las Vegas area about a decade ago, he jumped in and has lended a hand where he can. He annually partners with future Major League Baseball Hall-of-Famer Greg Maddux for the annual Las Vegas Celebrity Invitational hosted by the two, he has helped the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Tour form the Butch Harmon series, and now he is assisting The First Tee of Southern Nevada by helping a group of young golfers reach the highest levels of the game. And that's just some of what he does, while helping on other ways behind the scenes.
Recently, Harmon was quoted by VegasGolfer Magazine about how one of his student's, Natalie Gulbis, gives back through the game of golf, but his words also express his understanding that anyone associated with the game needs to take the time to help others. “Natalie is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and I mean that,” says Harmon. “She is very giving of her time and she understands that she can make a difference because of who she is. We are very fortunate to be a part of this great game, and it’s very important for us to give back. She understands and embraces that.”
Harmon also serves on the executive committee of Las Vegas' PGA Tour event, the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, and assists Timberlake by hosting the annual junior golf clinic during the tournament. |
